Opportunity Description

Lean Impact Alliance is seeking a creative and dependable Communications & Content Volunteer to help build awareness of our mission, programs, partnerships, and community impact.

The volunteer will help develop clear, accessible content for our website, social media, newsletters, volunteer recruitment, program outreach, and educational initiatives. This is a founding volunteer opportunity for someone interested in helping shape the public voice of a growing nonprofit organization.

Our communications should make topics such as data, digital transformation, responsible AI, and process improvement understandable and useful to nonprofit leaders, volunteers, partners, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Help develop and maintain a practical communications and content plan.
• Write and edit website pages, articles, program descriptions, and volunteer announcements.
• Create content for LinkedIn and other approved social media platforms.
• Help prepare email newsletters and organizational updates.
• Develop stories highlighting nonprofit needs, partnerships, volunteer contributions, and program results.
• Translate technical subjects into clear, accessible language for nontechnical audiences.
• Create or coordinate simple graphics using approved templates and branding.
• Maintain a content calendar and organized library of approved communications materials.
• Review content for clarity, accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and appropriate tone.
• Support promotion of workshops, assessments, pilot programs, and community initiatives.
• Monitor basic engagement metrics and recommend improvements.
• Collaborate with organizational leadership and other volunteers.

All public communications must receive approval from an authorized Lean Impact Alliance representative before publication. The volunteer may not independently issue official statements, make commitments, solicit donations, speak on behalf of the organization, or publish confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas in clear and accessible language.
• Experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, nonprofit outreach, social media, or content creation.
• Familiarity with LinkedIn, email marketing, website content management, or digital publishing.
• Basic graphic-design experience with Canva or similar tools is helpful.
• Interest in nonprofits, community development, technology, responsible AI, data-informed decision-making, or digital inclusion.
• Ability to organize assignments and meet agreed deadlines.
• Understanding of inclusive, ethical, and audience-appropriate communications.
• Experience with nonprofit organizations or community initiatives is helpful but not required.

Immigration requirements depend on the student’s status, academic program, school policies, assigned responsibilities, and whether the experience is intended to qualify as CPT, OPT, academic credit, or another authorized practical experience.

Compensation

This is an unpaid volunteer position. No wages, stipend, employee benefits, visa sponsorship, or promise of future employment are provided. Any reimbursement is limited to documented expenses approved in writing before they are incurred.
