    Description

    Veteran 11th Hour Volunteer Program

Serving Those Who Served — With Honor and Kindness

At Wings Over Virginia Hospice, we believe no Veteran should face their final moments alone.

Our Veteran 11th Hour Volunteers provide quiet strength, dignity, and companionship at the bedside of fellow Veterans during their final hours. This sacred role offers comfort, reassurance, and presence — often when family cannot be there.

What is a Veteran 11th Hour Volunteer?

Veteran Volunteers are specially trained to:

    • Sit vigil with Veterans in their final hours
    • Offer calm reassurance and respectful presence
    • Share stories of service and understanding
    • Provide a final salute or meaningful acknowledgment of service
    • Support families with honor and compassion

Sometimes, it’s a shared branch connection.

Sometimes, it’s quiet understanding between those who wore the uniform.

    Always, it’s respect.

    Why Veterans Serving Veterans Matters

There is a bond that only fellow service members understand.

    Your presence can:

    • Ease anxiety
    • Restore dignity
    • Provide camaraderie
    • Ensure no Veteran dies alone

For many, it is one final act of service.

    We Provide:

    • Comprehensive hospice volunteer training
    • Specialized 11th Hour vigil preparation
    • Guidance on honoring military service respectfully
    • Ongoing support from our interdisciplinary team
    • Flexible scheduling

    Who Should Apply?

    • Veterans from any branch of service
    • Active duty, Reserve, or retired service members
    • Military spouses who feel called to serve
