    Description

Help James River Hospice Patients feel less Lonely by Volunteering to make Visits with them

James River Hospice, Lynchburg, VA is looking for Friendly Visitor Volunteers to visit with our patients in and around Lynchburg, VA. James River Hospice provides services to terminally-ill people within 50 miles of Lynchburg.

Hospice is a system of care, not a place. We care for people with a life expectancy of six months or less. Some of our patients live longer than six months and some do not. As a James River Friendly Visitor in Lynchburg, you will visit a patient in whatever setting they call home; an assisted living facility, a 55+ community, an assisted living facility, a nursing home, a memory care unit in an assisted living or nursing home, or in the home of a family member. At James River Hospice, Lynchburg, we ask you to bring the sunshine when you visit with your patient. We offer training so you will feel confident in your role as a Friendly Visitor Volunteer.

As a volunteer, you will have a two-step TB test, drug screen and background check paid for by James River Hospice, Lynchburg. You will need to have or the ability to obtain a BLS/CPR certification and attend volunteer training in Lynchburg at our office.

Once you have been trained, you will be assigned to a patient and visit the patient 3-4 times a month. You can play card games, watch classic tv or movies, go outside (weather permitting) or sit quietly holding the patient's hand, offering support and comfort.
