    Description

    WHO WE ARE

El Mundo Duele is an NGO dedicated to providing psychosocial support to environmental activists, human rights defenders, change-makers, and frontline workers in humanitarian crisis contexts.

Our mission is to offer psychological, emotional, and spiritual support to those who risk their lives for a better world.

    WHAT NEED ARE WE ADDRESSING?

We are receiving an increasing number of requests from defenders of life in all its forms, presenting a wide range of psycho-emotional challenges such as stress, burnout, depression, addictions, PTSD, trauma related to imprisonment, trauma from political persecution, trauma from death threats, isolation, anxiety, existential crisis, desensitization, fear, paranoia, discouragement, exhaustion, abandonment, and more.

    THE CALL

In order to support these crucial individuals working toward a better world, we are seeking psychologists and psychotherapists with strong social sensitivity—ideally with experience or interest in activism, human rights, humanitarian crises, ecological crises, and/or social and political conflicts.

We are currently in the fundraising phase for the organization, but we already have active demand for support from individuals in complex and high-risk situations. For this reason, this call is for volunteer (pro bono) participation, with the projection of integrating volunteers into a paid professional staff in the future.

You may apply here or directly through our application form.

    ENGAGEMENT MODEL

    • Weekly commitment: From 1 hour to as much time as the volunteer wishes
    • Length of volunteer engagement: From 1 month onward
    • Modality: Remote / Virtual
    • Requirements: Licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, or physicians with specialized training in psychotherapy—that is, specific therapeutic techniques for treating emotional and mental health issues
    • Core competencies: Empathy, understanding of social causes, intercultural sensitivity, ethics and confidentiality, and awareness of the critical state of the world today, among others

    PROGRAMS YOU MAY PARTICIPATE IN

Initially, this call focuses on our 1:1 psychosocial therapy program. In the near future, we will also launch additional programs such as conditioning retreats, mutual support forums, discussion circles, a change incubator, and parenting for a possible future.

All programs can be found on our website: www.theworldhurts.com

    FUTURE PROJECTIONS

Given that psychological care for defenders of life has not received sufficient attention—lacking formal specializations and adequate research—we aim to generate case studies that can later be made publicly available, helping this field develop its own methodologies and specific professional criteria.
