About the Event
The KARES Family & Science Conference will take place on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, 2026, and brings together families from around the world alongside researchers and clinicians focused on KDM5C (Claes Jensen Syndrome). During conference sessions, children with KDM5C and their siblings will participate in KARES Camp.
What You’ll Do
- Support children ages 2–17 in a fun, engaging camp environment
- Participate in activities such as free play, music, arts & crafts, and structured programming
- Work with low ratios (1:2 for children with KDM5C; 1:4 for siblings)
- Receive training, materials, meals, snacks, and an event T-shirt
Why Volunteer
- Meaningful, resume-building experience with a population rarely encountered in coursework
- Up to 10 volunteer or clinical hours (coordination with faculty available)
- Opportunity to explore future internship or volunteer roles with KARES (communications, marketing, finance, and more)
Schedule
- Saturday, June 27: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (conference sessions 9:00–4:00)
- Sunday, June 28: 8:00 AM–1:00 PM (conference sessions 9:00–12:00)
Additional Requirements
- Attendance at one mandatory Zoom training session (multiple options available)
- Ongoing communication via email or text
- Two professional references
