About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and organized Community Manager (Volunteer) to help build, engage, and sustain our growing community at OpenGov Africa. We are a civic-tech initiative using open-source technology, data, and community collaboration to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across Africa.
This role is ideal for someone who understands online community dynamics, values structured engagement, and is excited about fostering meaningful conversations around governance, data, and civic innovation.
You will serve as a bridge between the organization and its community—ensuring contributors feel informed, valued, and actively involved.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies.
- Moderate discussions across platforms (e.g., Discord, LinkedIn, GitHub Discussions, or other community channels).
- Welcome and onboard new volunteers and contributors.
- Create engagement initiatives such as discussion prompts, community highlights, or contributor spotlights.
- Support collaboration between research, marketing, and technical teams.
- Track engagement metrics and recommend improvements.
- Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and mission-aligned community culture.
Qualifications
- Experience in community management, volunteer coordination, or digital engagement (preferred but not required).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize discussions and encourage participation.
- Comfort working in a remote, distributed environment.
- Passion for civic engagement, governance, or social impact.
