Thanks for your interest in volunteering with us! Please read this application thoroughly. This is not a paid/stipend position.
Masakhane (masa-con-eh) is a Xhosa word that means "let's build ourselves, for ourselves, together". Masakhane is a youth-driven organization providing community-based sexuality education in and around Newark, NJ. Masakhane’s anti-racist, pro-queer & pro-trans approach to sex-positive programming seeks to promote sexual liberation, including the right to pleasure, for marginalized communities.
We are seeking folks 16 and older to dedicate about 10 hours a month to help build our capacities in Newark and support our online and in-person programs.
Volunteers will assist with creating educational materials that support in-person and online programs. This will look like creating handouts in Canva, boosting our social media presence, doing behind-the-scenes research to bolster our existing curriculum and tabling at in-person community events in and around Newark.
The 2026 volunteer program will meet monthly online on the following days and times:
Volunteers are expected to attend at least one session a month, and can alternate between Sundays and Wednesdays. Meetings will be led by Masakhane team members and will consist of training on a variety of sexuality topics and collaborating with other volunteers and Masakhane team members. You will be expected to continue working on your volunteer project on your own time and report out at the following meeting.
The volunteer program starts in June and all volunteers are required to attend the first orientation session on Sunday, June 14th. We’re looking for folks who can volunteer until at least the end of December.
Application deadline: Friday, May 8, 2026
