Position Overview:
The Director of Community leads Surmount New York’s efforts to connect, engage, and uplift New Yorkers by ensuring access to trusted resources, cultivating meaningful partnerships, and building a strong presence in the community. This leadership role oversees community engagement strategies, the development and sharing of vetted resources, and the coordination of Surmount’s growing Community Resource Network.

Key Responsibilities:
Community Engagement & Visibility:
- Lead and oversee Surmount’s community presence, including organizing and approving tabling at local events, grassroots gatherings, and partner-hosted opportunities.
- Develop and execute outreach efforts such as the Summer Tabling Series and Surmount’s annual Community Empowerment Fair.
- Supervise and support a team of community volunteers, ambassadors, and engagement staff, ensuring alignment with Surmount’s values and goals.
- Create new initiatives or campaigns to increase local awareness of Surmount’s offerings and impact.
Resource Management & Sharing:
- Oversee the vetting and sharing of community resources through Surmount’s AirTable resource database.
- Ensure adherence to the vetting process while identifying and resolving inefficiencies or gaps.
- Coordinate monthly resource themes in collaboration with the Marketing Team for the "Surmount Shares" series.
- Ensure Surmount is consistently identifying, tracking, and sharing high-quality, culturally relevant, and accessible resources.
Community Partnerships:
- Oversee the Partnerships Manager and support the outreach and development of community-based partnerships across food security, housing, education, health, and more.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to determine priority sectors for partnership development.
- Assist in the drafting and formalization of partnership agreements and MOUs as needed.
- Represent Surmount in external meetings, coalitions, and collaborations, acting as a voice for community needs and shared solutions.
Community Resource Network:
- Lead the growth and facilitation of Surmount’s Community Resource Network, a collaborative of individuals and organizations working together to share resources, challenges, and solutions.
- Recruit, onboard, and support network members across New York City and Yonkers.
- Guide members in leading localized resource events, contributing insights to Surmount’s resource strategy, and participating in solution-focused discussions.

Time Commitment:
This is a volunteer position that requires approximately 5-10 hours of commitment per week.
