Volunteer With VITA – Phone Scheduler | IRS Tax Certified Program in Alameda County!
Details
Description
Looking for community service hours? Want to build your communication and customer service skills while making a difference in your community? Come volunteer with VITA!
For 24 years, the Fremont Family Resource Center's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program has provided free tax preparation services to eligible individuals and families. We’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to join our team as Phone Schedulers and help community members access these important services.
As a Phone Scheduler, you will:
- Answer calls from community members seeking free tax preparation services.
- Help clients determine available appointment options and schedule appointments.
- Provide clear information about VITA services and appointment requirements.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Help ensure clients have a smooth and welcoming experience from their first phone call. We invite bilingual Spanish and Mandarin speakers.
Requirements: Must be comfortable answering phones, able to sit for long periods, and have intermediate to advanced computer skills, including using a laptop, web-based calendaring applications, and Google Sheets. Volunteers must attend an in-person training session in December and pass the IRS Standard of Conduct Ethics test (open book).
No prior tax experience is needed! Training, materials, and support from a great team of fellow volunteers will be provided. This is a great opportunity to gain communication, customer service, and community service experience while helping local families access free tax assistance.
Phone Schedulers will operate Monday–Friday during the 2027 tax filing season. Volunteers can sign up for shifts from 8am–12pm or 1pm–5pm, with the exception of holidays.
