    Description

Seeking experienced interns to assist with grant writing for nonprofit

We are a small nonprofit called &Rise where we help women to be the ultimate versions of themselves no matter what adversities they've faced. We are currently seeking unpaid interns to assist our organization with securing grants for additional funding. We are seeking individuals who are comfortable with working independently as well as being motivated self-starters.

This is a remote position so you can work from anywhere. We are seeking someone who is willing to work 5-7 hours per week. Please note that this is an unpaid internship but there are many possibilities for advancement as our organization is steadily growing. We also would like our interns to be mission-driven as our organization helps women survivors of abuse, we hold several free support groups per week, and we also offer women in Illinois free counseling.

    Grant Writer Responsibilities:

    • Displaying adherence to the organization’s mission.
    • Maintaining proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs.
    • Assisting with the execution of the development department's strategy.
    • Identifying grant funding opportunities.
    • Writing, submitting, and managing grant proposals.
    • Furnishing prospective funders with supporting documents.
    • Maintaining records in hard copies and computer databases.

    Grant Writer Requirements:

    • 1+ year of grant writing experience.
    • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals.
    • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel and Gsuite
    • Excellent knowledge of fundraising information sources.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong people skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Ability to meet deadlines.

    Grant Writer Qualifications:

    • Strong Technical Writing Skills: The ability to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively. Must be able to tell a compelling story using data, facts, and personal narrative without adding unnecessary fluff.
    • Basic Research & Data Gathering: The skill to find local and national statistics on domestic violence, mental health stigmas, and demographics to back up why &Rise needs funding.
    • Organization & Deadline-Driven: Grant portals close exactly on time, with no exceptions. The intern must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a spreadsheet of due dates.
    • Trauma-Informed Empathy: Because intern will be writing about sensitive topics like abuse, trauma, and recovery, intern must be able to handle this subject matter with deep respect, maturity, and appropriate language.
    • Basic Financial Literacy: Grants require budgets. They don't need to be an accountant, but they should be comfortable using Excel or Google Sheets to break down how a $25,000 grant will be spent (e.g., matching the math for counseling slots and support groups).
    • Coachability & Resourcefulness: Should be proactive about asking for the &Rise boilerplate language, reviewing past successful proposals, and applying feedback quickly.

At this time, we do not have the capacity to train those who do not have any experience, so we ask that you only apply if you have at least one year experience of grant writing. Serious Inquiries only please.
