About Carolina Aviators Network (CAN)
CAN is a community-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit that connects pilots and aviation enthusiasts
across the Carolinas. Our brand centers on connection, enhancing general aviation, and servant
leadership. From coordinating disaster relief to mentoring underserved youth through our
educational programs, we leverage the power of flight to make a tangible impact.
With a private Facebook community of over 9,000 members and 87% of them active, we have a
massive, engaged foundation. We are looking for a creative leader to help us bridge that
community into a world-class digital brand.
The Opportunity
Are you looking to build a professional portfolio while working with a high-level creative team?
We are seeking a motivated, social-savvy Social Media Manager to lead our digital presence.
This is the perfect role for a student or budding leader who wants to "own" a brand’s social
voice. You won't just be posting; you’ll be strategizing. You will have the support of two highly
skilled graphic designers to bring your vision to life – we provide the high-end assets, you
provide the strategy and the spark.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage the Narrative: Oversee our Instagram and Facebook presence, ensuring a
consistent brand voice that aligns with our mission of service and excellence.
• Collaborate with Pros: Work directly with our design team to request, refine, and deploy
professional-grade visual assets.
• Strategy & Growth: Develop content calendars that highlight our four pillars:
Educational Programs, Community Engagement, Disaster Relief, and Member Services.
• Engagement: Monitor channels and foster community by responding to comments and
messages professionally.
• Lead the Way: We value autonomy! You will have the floor to propose new ideas,
research trends, and—if interested—launch our TikTok and YouTube presence from the
ground up.
• Analytics: Track and report on metrics to see what resonates with the aviation
community and adjust the strategy accordingly.
Who You Are
• ***A Self-Starter: You don't wait for a task list; you see a story (like a rescue flight or a
mentorship win) and you capture it.
• Platform Literate: You understand the nuances between an IG Reel and a Facebook
group post.
• Currently Enrolled: Ideally pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, PR, or a
related field.
• Aviation Enthusiast: A passion for flight, nonprofits, or the Carolinas community is a
major plus.
• Tools: Familiarity with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred to help maintain a
cohesive aesthetic.
Perks & Why Join Us?
As a volunteer/internship position, we are committed to ensuring you gain as much value as you
provide:
• Portfolio Gold: You will leave this role with a portfolio of professional-grade content
backed by elite design assets.
• Professional Mentorship: Work alongside experienced designers and business leaders
who can provide career guidance.
• Ultimate Flexibility: We are results-oriented. As long as the content is live and the
community is engaged, you set your own hours around your academic schedule.
• Network Access: Gain introductions to our network of aviation pros, nonprofit leaders,
and creative experts.
• References: Successful interns will receive a glowing letter of recommendation and
LinkedIn endorsements.
• Future Potential: While currently unpaid, this role has the potential to lead to a paid
part-time opportunity as the organization grows.
