    Description

Unpaid Volunteer Opportunity • Retirees, students, and community volunteers welcome

    About MVU and the opportunity

My Vision Unlimited inspires hope, strengthens families, and empowers individuals to build better lives. Our holistic approach includes spiritual growth, self-awareness, mentorship, and meaningful connections to community resources. We seek a volunteer or intern to research funding opportunities and help prepare compelling grant proposals that support this work.

MVU welcomes retirees, students, working professionals, and community volunteers. College enrollment is not required. Applicants may have grant writing experience or strong research and writing skills with the initiative to learn. Prior grant writing experience is helpful but not required.

    Responsibilities

    • Research grants and review eligibility, deadlines, and application requirements.
    • Help draft letters of inquiry, proposal sections, and application responses.
    • Gather program goals, budgets, supporting documents, and measurable outcomes with MVU leadership.
    • Maintain a grant calendar, track applications, and organize reusable materials.
    • Assist with grant reports and follow-up requirements; protect confidential information.

All proposals, budgets, and funding commitments require MVU leadership approval before submission.

    Qualifications

Strong writing, editing, research, and organizational skills; reliable communication; ability to meet agreed deadlines; and commitment to accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and community service. Prior grant writing experience is helpful but not required. Relevant studies may include communications, English, nonprofit management, public administration, social work, or business.

    Supervision, learning, and schedule

The selected volunteer will work alongside MVU’s current grant writer as part of a Grant writing team, helping research funding opportunities, prepare proposals, and track deadlines. Work under a designated MVU leadership supervisor, with assignments and feedback matched to experience. Gain practice in funding research, proposal development, and nonprofit program communication. Hours, start date, length of service, and remote or on-site arrangements will be agreed upon before beginning.

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Student internship placements, learning goals, required hours, and academic credit must be coordinated with the college and MVU; college approval is required for academic credit.

    How to apply

Email a résumé and a brief statement of interest, relevant skills, and availability. A short writing sample is encouraged; a class assignment is acceptable.
