    Description

Copy of Hospice Volunteer in Fishersville: Bring Comfort, Companionship, and Hope

Make a Meaningful Difference in Someone’s Life

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is simply our presence.

Medi Home Hospice is seeking compassionate, dependable volunteers to support hospice patients and their families throughout Charlottesville. You do not need medical experience—only a caring heart, a willingness to listen, and a desire to bring comfort to people during one of life’s most important seasons.

Hospice volunteers serve as valued members of our care team. Depending on your interests, abilities, and availability, you may:

    • Visit patients and provide friendly companionship
    • Listen to stories, read aloud, play games, or share music
    • Offer a calm and reassuring presence
    • Give family caregivers a brief period of respite
    • Make friendly telephone calls or write encouraging cards
    • Help with light errands or nonmedical tasks
    • Support our office, outreach efforts, or special projects
    • Use a personal talent—such as music, art, crafts, or pet therapy—to brighten someone’s day
    • Offer veteran-to-veteran companionship when applicable

Volunteers never provide medical care and are supported by our professional hospice team.

    Who We’re Looking For

    Our strongest volunteers are:

    • Compassionate and respectful
    • Dependable and trustworthy
    • Comfortable listening without judgment
    • Sensitive to different cultures, beliefs, and family traditions
    • Able to maintain privacy and appropriate boundaries
    • Willing to complete required orientation and screening

No previous hospice or healthcare experience is necessary. Training and ongoing support will be provided.

    Why Volunteer With Hospice?

Hospice volunteering is not about having all the right words. It is about showing up, listening, and reminding patients and families that they are not alone.

Even a small amount of your time can bring comfort, dignity, connection, and hope. Volunteers often discover that the experience enriches their own lives as deeply as it touches the people they serve.

We welcome retirees, working professionals, college students who meet our age requirements, veterans, musicians, artists, faith-community members, and anyone who feels called to serve others with compassion.
