About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, literacy, social-emotional learning, creative expression, career development, storytelling, and community-centered opportunity.
As MAP grows, we are building not only programs, but the organizational infrastructure necessary to sustain them.
That requires thoughtful diversification of revenue, stronger digital capabilities, new audiences, responsible experimentation, and business models that advance—not compromise—our mission.
Role Overview
Mentor A Promise is seeking a strategic, entrepreneurial, and mission-driven Chief Digital & Revenue Officer (CDRO)to join the Executive Team and lead the intersection of digital growth, earned revenue, audience development, commercialization strategy, and new revenue opportunities.
This executive will help MAP answer an increasingly important question:
How can we build sustainable sources of revenue that strengthen the mission while protecting the integrity of the organization?
The CDRO will identify and develop opportunities across MAP’s growing ecosystem—including digital platforms, publishing, creative media, products, intellectual property, campaigns, partnerships, and other mission-aligned ventures.
This is not simply a fundraising position.
The CDRO is responsible for helping MAP develop a diversified revenue engine that complements philanthropy and strengthens long-term organizational sustainability.
Executive Leadership Responsibilities
As a member of MAP’s Executive Team, the Chief Digital & Revenue Officer is expected to:
- Attend weekly Chiefs meetings prepared to contribute to organization-wide strategy and decision-making.
- Meet regularly with the CEO to discuss priorities, challenges, opportunities, and performance.
- Take ownership of the digital and revenue portfolio by setting direction, solving problems, and driving measurable progress.
- Communicate consistently with Directors and direct reports so teams remain informed, supported, and accountable.
- Follow through on commitments and model integrity, collaboration, sound judgment, and accountability.
- Help recruit, develop, and retain talented volunteers while building a healthy, mission-driven culture.
- Collaborate across divisions rather than allowing revenue initiatives to operate in organizational silos.
- Keep MAP’s mission at the center of every decision, remembering that revenue exists to strengthen our ability to serve children and families—not become the mission itself.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Strategy & Diversification
- Develop MAP’s organization-wide strategy for diversified and sustainable revenue.
- Identify new mission-aligned earned-income opportunities.
- Build revenue models, forecasts, priorities, and measurable growth objectives.
- Evaluate opportunities based on financial potential, mission alignment, operational feasibility, reputation, risk, and organizational capacity.
- Establish disciplined processes for testing new revenue concepts before significant resources are committed.
- Work with Finance to understand margins, costs, cash requirements, and financial performance.
- Build a long-term revenue portfolio that reduces overdependence on any single funding source.
Digital Growth & Monetization
- Develop strategies for responsible revenue generation across MAP’s digital ecosystem.
- Identify opportunities involving digital products, content, publishing, platforms, memberships, licensing, subscriptions, educational resources, and other appropriate models.
- Collaborate with PromiseStack on technology requirements and digital-product capabilities.
- Develop conversion pathways that responsibly move audiences from awareness to engagement, participation, purchasing, partnership, or giving.
- Use analytics and experimentation to understand what drives sustainable digital growth.
- Ensure digital growth practices respect privacy, accessibility, safeguarding, and ethical data-use standards.
Products, Publishing & Creative Ventures
Collaborate with MAP’s creative divisions to evaluate revenue opportunities involving:
- Books and publishing
- Original intellectual property
- Educational resources
- Fashion and merchandise
- Creative products
- Film and media
- Licensing
- Digital content
- Events and experiences
- Appropriate brand collaborations
The CDRO does not assume creative ownership of these divisions.
Creative leaders retain responsibility for their disciplines. The CDRO provides the commercial strategy, business modeling, distribution thinking, and revenue infrastructure that can help strong creative ideas become sustainable ventures.
Audience & Market Development
- Identify audiences and markets aligned with MAP’s mission and products.
- Develop strategies for audience acquisition, conversion, retention, and lifetime engagement.
- Partner with PromiseVoice and PromisePublic on messaging and communications.
- Collaborate with PromiseBrands on product positioning and brand experiences.
- Use data and market insight to identify growth opportunities.
- Establish measurable goals for audience and revenue performance.
Partnerships & Business Development
- Identify strategic partnerships capable of expanding distribution, reach, revenue, or market access.
- Collaborate with PromiseBridge on external relationships and partnership development.
- Evaluate licensing, distribution, corporate, platform, and commercial opportunities.
- Help negotiate business terms in coordination with executive, finance, and legal leadership.
- Develop relationships with organizations and professionals that can accelerate MAP’s responsible growth.
Revenue Operations & Performance
- Establish dashboards and performance indicators for revenue-generating activities.
- Monitor revenue, costs, conversion, margins, customer or audience behavior, and other relevant metrics.
- Create clear accountability for initiatives and owners.
- Identify underperforming activities and recommend whether to improve, reposition, scale, or discontinue them.
- Provide concise, decision-oriented revenue updates to the CEO and Executive Team.
- Build systems capable of supporting greater scale as MAP grows.
Nonprofit Revenue, Ethics & Compliance
MAP is a nonprofit organization. Revenue generation must therefore be approached differently from growth in a conventional commercial enterprise.
The CDRO will work closely with Finance, Legal, Governance, Tax, Privacy, and Executive Leadership to ensure proposed activities receive appropriate review concerning matters such as:
- Mission alignment
- Tax-exempt purpose
- Earned-income considerations
- Unrelated business income
- Sales tax
- Charitable solicitation
- Intellectual property
- Contracts and licensing
- Youth-created work
- Compensation and royalties
- Privacy and data use
- Advertising and sponsorship
- Consumer protection
- Safeguarding
- Conflicts of interest
Revenue opportunity alone is never sufficient justification for an initiative.
MAP will pursue revenue in ways that protect its charitable mission, public trust, and the dignity of the children and families it serves.
Build the Function
This is a leadership and function-building role.
The CDRO will help determine the talent and structure MAP needs as its digital and revenue activities mature and may help recruit and develop professionals across areas such as:
- Revenue operations
- Digital commerce
- Growth strategy
- Audience development
- Business development
- Licensing
- Product commercialization
- Digital partnerships
- Market research
- Revenue analytics
The goal is to build a capable function—not create an organization dependent on one executive.

Strong candidates may bring senior experience in:
- Digital strategy
- Revenue leadership
- Business development
- E-commerce
- Digital products
- Growth strategy

- Consumer products

The strongest candidates will demonstrate:

- High ethical standards
- Commitment to MAP’s mission
Nonprofit experience is valuable, but candidates with substantial private-sector, startup, media, technology, publishing, consumer, or social-enterprise experience who can thoughtfully adapt their expertise to a nonprofit environment are strongly encouraged.
What Success Looks Like
Success means MAP develops a stronger, more diversified, and more disciplined revenue ecosystem.
Over time:
- New revenue opportunities are identified systematically.
- Ideas are tested before they are scaled.
- Digital audiences grow meaningfully.
- Strong creative work has clearer pathways to market.
- Revenue decisions are supported by data and financial analysis.
- Underperforming initiatives are addressed rather than indefinitely maintained.
- Divisions understand their roles within revenue-generating initiatives.
- MAP develops new sources of unrestricted and mission-aligned income.
- Revenue growth strengthens rather than distorts organizational priorities.
- MAP becomes increasingly financially resilient while preserving public trust.
Why This Role Matters
A nonprofit cannot build its future on good intentions alone.
Programs require resources.
Innovation requires investment.
Creative ideas require production.
Technology requires infrastructure.
Growth requires sustainability.
MAP needs an executive capable of seeing the possibilities across our organization and asking not only “Could we build this?” but also:
Who needs it?
How do we reach them?
What is the business model?
What will it cost?
Can it scale?
Is it responsible?
And will it ultimately make the mission stronger?
The Chief Digital & Revenue Officer helps turn those questions into strategy—and strategy into sustainable growth.
Build the audience. Diversify the revenue. Strengthen the enterprise. Protect the mission.
