    Description

    Facilitator Coding - Girls Who Code

    From Me 2 U, Inc. uses a variety of tools to get students engaged and thinking about their future. Working On Me is our technopreneurship club that engages middle school/junior high school youth in career opportunities that involve technology.

    The Volunteer Girls Who Code Facilitator supports the delivery of engaging, inclusive computer science programming for girls and non-binary students. This role focuses on mentorship, instructional support, and fostering a positive learning environment that builds technical skills, confidence, and interest in STEM fields.

    Volunteer Facilitators serve as role models, encouraging students to explore coding concepts while promoting collaboration, creativity, and perseverance. If the applicant is a high school student, they must be available on Saturdays.

    Key Responsibilities

    Instructional Support

    • Assist in facilitating weekly Girls Who Code sessions using the provided curriculum.
    • Support students as they work through coding lessons and projects (e.g., Scratch, HTML/CSS, Python, or JavaScript).
    • Help troubleshoot technical issues and answer student questions.
    • Encourage problem-solving and independent thinking.

    Mentorship & Engagement

    • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
    • Provide encouragement and constructive feedback.
    • Share personal educational or career experiences in STEM (when appropriate).
    • Promote teamwork and respectful collaboration among students.

    Program Support

    • Assist with attendance tracking and session setup/cleanup (if in-person).
    • Communicate regularly with the Club Advisor or Program Coordinator.
    • Uphold program policies and safety guidelines.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Interest in computer science, technology, or STEM education.
    • Basic knowledge of at least one programming language (preferred but not always required).
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Commitment to equity and empowering girls in technology.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working with youth (middle or high school).
    • Background in education, technology, or a related field.
    • Prior involvement with Girls Who Code programs.
