Volunteering at a wildlife rescue center in Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Details
Description
Volunteering at APAMI is a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with the care and maintenance of a wildlife rescue center, while learning about conservation and the impact of our actions on animal welfare and ecological balance.
At APAMI we seek to share the knowledge we acquire on a daily basis, promoting practices that minimize the habituation of animals to human presence and promote their reintegration into the natural environment whenever possible.
For those that cannot be released, we focus on providing adequate enclosures that meet their physical and psychological needs.
The volunteer program is very important for the maintenance of the center. Here's what volunteers typically do:
- Preparing food for the animals.
- Gardening and helping maintain our 'Huerta GNUMU' organic garden.
- Cleaning trails, common areas, and reception spaces.
- Supporting educational activities and special events.
- Creating and implementing enrichment exercises to reduce stress for our animals.
Depending on the volunteer's level of experience, skills and knowledge, volunteers can assist in our clinic and quarantine area, or help the animal care team with tasks in the sanctuary.
