    Description

    Help Believe in Me lead an effective, accountable board that advances programs serving underserved youth and young people, including scholarships, community partnerships, iLevelUP, Cougs 4 Kids, and Legacy Lounge.

    The volunteer Board Chair leads board governance, meeting effectiveness, leadership partnership, accountability, and succession while preserving the distinction between board oversight and staff management.

    Responsibilities:

    • Set board agendas and annual governance priorities with authorized leadership
    • Chair meetings, encourage informed participation, manage conflicts constructively, and confirm decisions
    • Ensure committees, officers, evaluations, policies, succession, and board development remain active
    • Support board oversight of mission, strategy, finances, risk, compliance, executive performance, and organizational sustainability
    • Maintain an appropriate governance relationship with organizational leadership
    • Ensure conflicts, recusals, minutes, confidentiality, and delegated authority are handled correctly
    • Represent the board only within approved authority and messaging
    • Support fundraising and relationship development without promising benefits or decisions
    • Escalate legal, ethical, safety, financial, or governance concerns through appropriate channels

    Qualifications:

    • Prior nonprofit board or comparable governance leadership experience
    • Strong facilitation, judgment, accountability, diplomacy, strategic thinking, and written communication
    • Understanding of fiduciary duties, nonprofit finance, risk, conflicts, executive oversight, and board development
    • Commitment to the mission and ability to meet the full term and time expectations
    • At least 30 years old and willing to complete background and reference checks

    This is a remote governance role available within the United States, with virtual meetings and occasional optional Seattle activities. Expect approximately 8–12 hours per month.
