Volunteer Public Relations & Media Outreach Specialist

Thrive and Rooted is seeking a Volunteer Public Relations & Media Outreach Specialist to support our growing nonprofit through strategic press outreach and storytelling.

This role will help elevate awareness of our programs including our Powered by Plants educational series, community garden initiatives, and animal advocacy partnerships — by developing and distributing press releases, building local media relationships, and identifying opportunities for earned media coverage.

Responsibilities include:

• Drafting and refining press releases for events, partnerships, and milestones
• Identifying and building relationships with local and regional media outlets
• Researching relevant journalists and community publications
• Assisting with media pitch development and outreach
• Advising on PR strategy and positioning
• Tracking press placements and outreach efforts

Qualifications:

• Experience in public relations, journalism, communications, or media outreach
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Familiarity with press distribution platforms and media pitching
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Interest in plant-based nutrition, sustainability, food justice, or animal advocacy preferred
