    Newsletter & Email Marketing Specialist

    About the Role

    OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech initiative using open-source technology, data, and community collaboration to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across Africa.

    We are seeking a proactive, organized, and highly skilled Newsletter & Email Marketing Specialist (Volunteer) to help develop and manage OpenGov Africa’s email communications and newsletter strategy.

    This role is ideal for someone who understands how to use email as a powerful storytelling and engagement tool. The volunteer will help translate research updates, community activities, and organizational milestones into compelling newsletters that keep our audience informed and connected.

    The right candidate should be comfortable crafting engaging email content, organizing information clearly, and improving audience engagement through thoughtful email campaigns for various audiences..

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan and manage OpenGov Africa’s newsletter and email communication strategy.
    • Write and edit engaging newsletters that highlight research insights, community activities, and organizational updates.
    • Create email campaigns that drive engagement with OpenGov Africa’s content and initiatives.
    • Organize and structure email content in a clear, reader-friendly format.
    • Monitor performance metrics such as open rates and engagement where possible.
    • Collaborate with the marketing and research teams to ensure accurate and compelling messaging.

    Qualifications

    • Strong writing and editing skills.
    • Experience with newsletters or email marketing platforms like ConvertKit.
    • Ability to structure information clearly and keep readers engaged.
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    • Interest in governance, civic engagement, or social impact work.

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience developing newsletter strategies or email campaigns.
    • Familiarity with audience engagement and content marketing principles.
    • Basic understanding of analytics related to email marketing.
