Position Summary
The Baltimore Times is seeking volunteer Community Outreach Ambassadors to help expand the reach of its free community newspaper throughout Baltimore and the surrounding region. This volunteer will attend festivals, community events, and neighborhood gatherings to distribute free newspapers, engage with residents, and help connect the community to positive news, resources, and stories.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend assigned festivals, community events, and public gatherings on behalf of The Baltimore Times
- Distribute free community newspapers to event attendees, vendors, partners, and residents
- Share basic information about The Baltimore Times and its role in the community
- Help identify new locations, events, and community spaces where newspapers can be distributed
- Represent The Baltimore Times in a friendly, professional, and respectful manner
- Assist with setting up and breaking down outreach materials when needed
- Track newspaper distribution numbers or provide simple event notes when requested
- Support community engagement efforts and help encourage readership
- Perform other outreach-related duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable speaking with the public
- Interest in community engagement, local news, media, culture, or public service
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions
- Comfortable attending outdoor festivals, neighborhood events, and community programs
- Strong communication and people skills
- Prior experience in outreach, customer service, events, volunteering, or community organizing is helpful but not required
Physical Requirements
- Must be comfortable standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Must be able to carry and distribute newspapers
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds preferred
- Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors, including at festivals and community events
