Role: Board Member (Treasurer)

Area of Expertise: Financial Management & Oversight

Overview: The Treasurer is a lead director responsible for overseeing the financial integrity of YourPassion1st. This individual acts as a primary interface between the Board and the leadership regarding the organization’s financial health. The Treasurer ensures that the Board is informed of financial trends, risks, and fiscal responsibilities, ensuring that the organization’s passion-driven mission is backed by sustainable financial practices.

Specific Responsibilities (Leadership & Governance):

• Serve as the Chair of the Finance and/or Audit Committee.
• Review and present monthly/quarterly financial statements to the Board.
• Ensure accurate financial records are maintained and that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board and stakeholders.
• Oversee the development and Board approval of the annual budget; monitor adherence to the budget throughout the year.
• Ensure the organization is in compliance with all tax filings (Form 990), audits, and internal financial controls.
• Assist the leadership in the development of long-term financial forecasting and investment strategies.

Fundraising Responsibilities:

• Make YourPassion1st a philanthropic priority with an annual gift commensurate with capacity.
• Advise on the financial feasibility of various fundraising initiatives and grant applications.
• Assist in conveying the "financial story" of the organization to major donors and institutional funders.

Objective of This Role:

• Safeguard the organization's assets and ensure fiscal transparency.
• Provide strategic guidance on financial planning and risk management.
• Ensure the Board understands the financial implications of its strategic decisions.

Daily & Monthly Responsibilities:

• Regular check-ins with the Chair to review cash flow and financial standing.
• Oversee the selection and work of an external auditor, if applicable.
• Review internal accounting procedures and recommend improvements.
• Draft financial reports and narratives for the annual report.

Service on YourPassion1st’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties.

Board Terms:

YourPassion1st Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for unlimited additional terms. Board meetings will be held quarterly and committee meeting will be held in coordination with board meetings
