Description:
This opportunity is for a volunteer to lead a monthly yoga class for senior residents at Otterbein Manor who have expressed interest in wellness and movement activities. The volunteer will guide residents through gentle yoga movements and breathing techniques that support physical wellness, relaxation, and overall well‑being. Sessions are held monthly on Thursdays between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
Reports to:
Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator
Goal of Position:
To provide senior residents with an outlet for physical and spiritual activity while supporting overall wellness, relaxation, and healthy routines.
Specific Tasks:
- Prepare an agenda for each yoga session, including appropriate exercises and pacing.
- Lead residents through yoga movements and breathing techniques while offering encouragement and positive feedback.
- Provide clear instructions or guidelines for poses and activities.
- Support residents one‑on‑one as needed while encouraging independence.
- Listen to resident feedback and remain open to questions or suggestions.
- Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign‑in sheet.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up the activity space, returning furniture as needed.
- Communicate any supply needs or concerns to the Service Coordinator or Volunteer Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Physical/Age Requirements:
- Able to maintain physical activity for one hour.
- Able to move chairs or tables to create a safe activity space.
Skills/Education/Experience:
- Experience or education in yoga, exercise, or movement‑based instruction preferred.
- Prior teaching or group facilitation experience is a plus.
- Friendly, patient, and comfortable working with senior residents.
- Ability to work independently with support from on‑site staff as needed.
- CPR and First Aid certification strongly preferred.
