    Description

    Nurse & Allied Health Professional

    Why join Health & Help?

You’ll gain hands-on clinical experience while learning to provide care in resource-limited, rural settings. In our clinics, you’ll apply your skills directly with patients and see firsthand how healthcare is delivered in a different cultural and logistical context. You’ll work with patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults, supporting both routine and urgent care in a setting where your skills are put to immediate use.

By joining this program, you’ll not only strengthen your professional skills, but also learn to adapt and problem-solve in environments with limited resources.

You’ll gain experience in patient assessment, clinical procedures, and community health outreach, while working alongside a diverse, international team. You’ll also develop cross-cultural communication skills and an understanding of healthcare challenges specific to underserved communities.

This is a unique opportunity to practice your profession fully, contribute meaningfully to patient care, and see the tangible impact of your work every day — all while gaining insights that go far beyond what can be learned in a classroom or hospital in a more resource-rich setting.

    What you’ll do

    • Support providers in patient care and procedures
    • Conducting clinical assessments, checking vitals, and taking patient histories
    • Assisting with procedures such as injections, wound care, IVs, and vaccinations
    • Supporting clinic intake, patient follow-up, and record-keeping
    • Staffing the pharmacy, helping with medication distribution, and other operational tasks
    • Participating in community outreach and health promotion, including educational programs on hygiene, nutrition, and preventive care

    What’s Included

    • Pre-departure guidance and full on-site orientation
    • Free accommodation in the clinic
    • Healthy vegetarian meals every day
    • Certificate of participation
    • Continuous support as you adapt to rural life, a new setting, and an international team

    Who can join

    • Age 21+
    • Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and other allied health professionals
    • Spanish level B1+ (or motivated to get there — we’ll help you prepare!)
    • Adaptable to rural clinic life—limited internet, basic facilities, international team
    • Shares our values and supports Health & Help’s mission of equal access to healthcare

    Сontribution

We are an independent, nonprofit organization. To keep our clinics open and to ensure volunteers have a safe, comfortable, and well-equipped place to live and work, we ask each international volunteer to contribute $150 per week during their stay.

This contribution covers the essential, ongoing costs of operating a clinic in a remote area, including:

    • accommodation and daily meals
    • water, electricity, internet, cooking gas
    • local logistics and operational expenses
    • medical supplies, medications, and other consumables

Because our clinics are located in remote areas, these costs are higher than usual, reflecting the challenges of logistics and daily operations.

Your contribution helps keep the clinic functioning not only during your stay, but for every patient who depends on it year-round.

By contributing, you support the project in two ways: through your medical work, and through helping sustain the infrastructure that makes that work possible.

    Support for Local Volunteers

We are committed to long-term, community-based impact. For that reason, Health & Help fully covers the participation costs for volunteers from Guatemala and Nicaragua. Local medical professionals bring cultural knowledge, continuity of care, and long-term commitment to the communities we serve. By investing in their training and experience, we help strengthen healthcare from within — not only while international volunteers are present, but far into the future.
