    Description

    Honor a Terminally Ill Veteran

The Tidewell HONORS program prides itself in making sure that no Veteran dies without being thanked and saluted for their service by a fellow Veteran (unless they prefer not to be). Volunteer Veterans visit our hospice patient Veterans in private homes, nursing homes, hospitals, assisted livings, or wherever they consider "home" and read a formal script, salute them, and present them with a certificate and lapel pin. For some Veterans, this is the first time they were thanked for their service or welcomed home. Ceremonies can take as little as 15 minutes, but often a bond forms quickly between the volunteer and patient and time is spent reminiscing over aspects of military service. Appropriate PPE is provided depending on public health situation. Covid-19 vaccination is required.
