    Description

    Afterschool STEM Class Volunteer

    Scientific Adventures for Girls is seeking volunteers to spend 1 afternoon per week for the 2026-2027 school year assisting with afterschool STEM programming at Richmond/San Pablo schools.

    AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

    Who: Individuals 18+

    Commitment: Minimum of 1 hour, 1 afternoon per week for 27 weeks Sept 2026- May 2027

    Hours: 1-3 hours between 1pm-5:30pm (school depending)

    Days: 1 afternoon, 1 weekday (Monday-Friday)

    Where: Elementary schools in Richmond/San Pablo

    What:

    Help teachers facilitate 1-3, 1 hour STEM lessons for elementary school-ages girls.

    Topics this year include: Space Science, Climate Solutions, and Light & Color

    You do not need to be an expert or knowledgeable in these topics to help engage TK-6th graders in STEM learning.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the teacher in delivering project-based, in-person STEM lessons.
    • Assist with activity set-up and clean-up.
    • Build relationships with students, focusing on socio-emotional development and individual strengths
    • For select schools, Spanish is a plus, but not mandatory.

    Requirements:

    1. Be 18+ years old
    2. Attend a virtual training
    3. Provide state/district required clearances:
      • Proof of negative TB Test in the last 2 years
      • LiveScan fingerprinting (school district specific, ~$40-$80)
      • Completed CA Mandated Reporter training (or show proof of completion in the past year)

    • Dover Elementary (Tuesdays)
    • Sheldon Elementary (Tuesdays and/or Thursdays)
    • Chavez Elementary (Wednesdays)
    • Lincoln Elementary (Wednesdays)
    • Murphy Elementary (Wednesdays)
    • Nystrom Elementary (Wednesdays)
    • Downer Elementary (Thursdays)
    • Valley View Elementary (Thursdays)
    • Bayview Elementary (Fridays)
    • Lake Elementary (Fridays)
    • Peres Elementary (Fridays)
    • Tara Hills Elementary (Fridays)
    • Washington Elementary (Fridays)
