About PromiseShield | Compliance, Safeguarding & Risk
PromiseShield is MAP’s division responsible for legal compliance, safeguarding practices, data protection, and organizational risk management. The division ensures that all programs, partnerships, and operations meet required standards to protect children, volunteers, and the organization.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Compliance & Safeguarding Coordinator to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding and compliance systems across MAP programs.
This role ensures that all work involving youth is conducted safely, ethically, and in alignment with legal and organizational standards.
This is a risk-critical role that protects:
- Children and youth
- Volunteers and staff
- School and institutional partnerships
- The organization as a whole
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding Systems & Protocols
- Support development and implementation of child safeguarding policies and procedures
- Ensure clear reporting pathways for incidents, concerns, and escalations
- Promote safe practices across all youth-facing programs
Compliance Oversight
- Support adherence to NYC DOE requirements, background check processes (SCR, fingerprinting), and volunteer clearance systems
- Ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulatory requirements
- Maintain documentation for compliance and audit readiness
Risk Identification & Management
- Identify potential safeguarding and compliance risks across programs and partnerships
- Support mitigation strategies and corrective actions
- Escalate issues appropriately and in a timely manner
Training & Awareness
- Support training for staff and volunteers on safeguarding, boundaries, and compliance expectations
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and ethical responsibility
- Reinforce best practices for working with youth
Incident Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain organized, confidential records of incidents and compliance processes
- Support proper documentation, tracking, and follow-up
- Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all matters
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Program, HR, and Partnerships teams to ensure safeguarding is integrated into all operations
- Collaborate with Privacy and Data teams on student data protection alignment
- Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace
Qualifications
Required
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, compliance, or risk management principles
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and ethical judgment
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with care and clarity
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values
Preferred
- Experience working with youth, schools, or vulnerable populations
- Familiarity with NYC DOE requirements, background checks, and safeguarding standards
- Experience in compliance, legal, HR, or nonprofit environments
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
Commitment
- Volunteer role
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
- Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
