    Description

Navigator Emergency Services (NES) – Rural Michigan and Regional Deployment Opportunities

    About Navigator Emergency Services

Navigator Emergency Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing healthcare, rescue, and education to rural and underserved communities. Our teams support mobile health clinics, community health outreach, and standby rescue operations for construction, industrial, and disaster environments.

We are currently seeking dedicated EMTs and RNs to join our volunteer roster. This is an opportunity to serve, train, and grow alongside a team committed to improving access to care and emergency response capabilities in Michigan’s most underserved areas.

    Role Overview

Volunteer EMTs and RNs will assist in:

    • Community health clinics — vital signs checks, wound care, and preventive screenings.
    • Disaster and standby operations — providing basic medical care and support during emergency deployments.
    • Rope and technical rescue operations — assist trained technicians in high-angle, confined space, and wilderness rescues (training provided).
    • Public health and education programs — supporting outreach events, such as rural health fairs and first responder education sessions.

This position offers meaningful hands-on experience in both austere medicine and rescue operations.

    Training & Development

Volunteers receive opportunities to participate in NES-sponsored training such as:

    • Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations
    • Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness EMS concepts
    • Incident Command & Disaster Response fundamentals
    • Health screening and public health outreach education

Training hours can often count toward continuing education requirements depending on your licensing body.

    Qualifications

    • Current EMT-B, EMT-P, or RN license (Michigan or NREMT accepted).
    • Commitment to community service and teamwork.
    • Ability to work in outdoor and austere environments.
    • Willingness to participate in periodic training or deployment exercises.

    Time Commitment

Flexible — most volunteer activities occur on weekends or during special events. Deployment opportunities may arise during emergencies or planned community health missions.

    Compensation

    This is a volunteer position.

However, active volunteers will be first in line for consideration as Navigator Emergency Services secures funding for part-time or paid positions in clinical and rescue operations.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Real-world experience in mobile medicine, rescue operations, and disaster response.
    • Access to specialized rescue and medical training not typically available in civilian EMS.
    • Networking and leadership opportunities within a growing, mission-driven organization.
    • The chance to make a measurable difference in rural health outcomes.
