    Description

    Remote Patient Interviewer - Remote · Flexible scheduling · 4–6 hours/month

Healthful Stories is a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that conducts in-depth interviews with people living with chronic and complex health conditions. We exist to document the real patient journey: the delays, the barriers, and the turning points in a way that will have the greatest impact on those living with similar illnesses. Our interviews are structured and informational, not just inspirational. We don't ask people how they stay positive. We ask what actually happened.

As a Patient Interviewer, you will conduct one-on-one recorded interviews with individuals living with specific health conditions, following structured discussion guides developed by our team. You'll be responsible for building rapport with participants, keeping sessions focused and on-time, and flagging insights that may warrant follow-up.

    You bring:

    • Background or coursework in public health, nursing, social work, journalism, anthropology, or a related field
    • Comfort with semi-structured interviewing and active listening
    • Ability to maintain a neutral, nonjudgmental presence with participants discussing sensitive health experiences
    • Reliable internet connection and a quiet space for remote interviews

What you'll gain: Direct experience conducting qualitative health research with real patient populations, the kind of work that looks exceptional on applications to MPH programs, health policy fellowships, medical school, and careers in patient advocacy or health communications. You'll receive onboarding, structured discussion guides, and ongoing feedback from our team.
