Peaceful Hearts Hospice has a particular need for volunteers who can serve our patients residing in Papillion, Bellevue, and Plattsmouth areas. Volunteers function in one or more of the following ways:
Companion Volunteers - meet with patients on a regular basis (usually weekly) for about an hour per visit. These can take place in the patients own home or in any number of long-term care facilities around the metro area. These visits vary as much as people do - you could be socializing, chatting, playing games, watching tv, going on walks, etc or simply sitting at bedside
Respite volunteers these visits take place in the patient's private family residence and the purpose is to give a break for the family member so these visits are longer 2-4 hours depending on the need. Volunteers do not provide hands-on care, so though you would be alone with the patient you would not be taking them to the toilet or needing to do anything like that
Peaceful Presence - this volunteering is in the final hours to days of the patient's life. Your purpose is to set a peaceful environment, play music, read soothing readings, etc AND paying attention to any signs of discomfort and getting the attention of the facility nurse. This volunteer goes on a list of willing volunteers that the Vol coordinator reaches out to as a need arises and see if it works in your schedule at the time.
Specialty volunteers: Musicians, pet therapy teams, aestheticians and artists ....
