Monday through Friday, EVLovesNYC needs volunteers to help in our kitchen, prepping food, cooking, packaging, and delivering meals to neighbors in need. You will be working alongside trainees of Cafewal, our culinary workforce training program.
What you can expect: Arrive at our sunny kitchen at 10:30. We'll welcome you, hand you an apron and a cutting board, and get you working immediately. You may be asked to participate in any number of tasks: washing and chopping vegetables, standing at the stove stirring and cooking, making rice, spooning meals into containers and catering trays, walking prepared food to neighborhood distribution sites, taking inventory, cleaning up. You'll work and chat with other volunteers and our Cafewal trainees, as well as instructors.
At the end of your shift, around 1:30 or 2pm, you can sit and enjoy a meal (that you helped cook!) with our staff and other volunteers.
What to wear: Pants long enough to cover your knees, shirts with sleeves, and closed-toe shoes. Bring a hat or scarf to cover your hair, too, please.
