Looking for Bilingual Advocates for Youth in Foster Care

In Prince George’s County, 21% of residents are born outside the U.S. and in approximately 22% of our cases, English proficiency for the child or parent is a barrier that we are not currently fully addressing. CASA is looking for Spanish-speaking volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in cases where the child and/or family have Limited English Proficiency. #ChangeaChildsStory. Duties:

    • Mentor a child or teen twice a month.
    • Write a court report advocating for the child or teen’s best interests.
    • Present the recommendations in the court report twice a year at civil court hearings.

    Qualifications:

    • Bilingual in English and Spanish (not required to be a native English speaker).
    • Enjoy working with children and teens.
    • Maintain youth’s confidentiality.
    • Open to learning about child welfare.

    Time Requirements:

CASA volunteers dedicate an average of 2-3 hours per week, which includes meeting with their assigned child or teen twice a month and communication with the important adults in the child/teen’s life. Also, there is a minimum 1-year commitment to the case for consistency for our youth.

    Training:

    Benefits:

    • Free professional training.
    • Support and supervision from CASA Case Supervisors for advice and support during your case.
