    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. As MAP grows, strong visual identity and design systems are essential to communicating clearly, building trust, and maintaining consistency across all platforms.

    About PromiseStudios | Creative, Design & Production

    PromiseStudios is MAP’s creative division responsible for visual identity, design systems, content production, and brand expression. The division ensures that all creative output is aligned, high-quality, and reflective of MAP’s mission and voice.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Deputy Director of Graphic Design to support the leadership, coordination, and execution of MAP’s visual design work.

    This role works closely with the Creative Director to ensure consistency across design outputs, support team coordination, and maintain high standards across all visual materials.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design Execution & Quality

    • Support development of high-quality visual assets across digital and print platforms
    • Ensure consistency with MAP’s brand guidelines and visual identity
    • Review and refine design work for clarity, alignment, and impact

    Design Systems & Standards

    • Support maintenance and implementation of visual identity systems
    • Ensure design consistency across campaigns, publications, and platforms
    • Assist in documenting and updating design guidelines

    Team Coordination

    • Support coordination of graphic design projects and timelines
    • Assist in managing workflow across designers and creative contributors
    • Ensure timely delivery of design assets

    Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Work with PromiseVoice, PromisePublic, and program teams to align visual and messaging needs
    • Support design for campaigns, storytelling, and program materials
    • Ensure design supports communication and engagement goals

    Creative Support & Development

    • Provide feedback and guidance to designers and contributors
    • Support development of creative concepts aligned with MAP’s mission
    • Help maintain a cohesive visual narrative across outputs

    Systems & Communication

    • Maintain organized design files and documentation
    • Support efficient design workflows and processes
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong experience in graphic design and visual communication
    • Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or similar)
    • Strong understanding of branding and visual identity systems
    • Strong attention to detail and design consistency
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience in design leadership or team coordination
    • Experience working on multi-channel campaigns or nonprofit projects
    • Familiarity with layout design, digital content, and print production
    • Experience building or maintaining design systems

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid / remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
