    Development, Grants & Resource Strategy

    Organization: Mentor A Promise (MAP)

Location: Remote with NYC-based collaboration as needed

Type: Volunteer (Development & Funding Role)

    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a NYC-based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, creative expression, and community-based programs. Sustained, ethical funding is essential to ensuring that MAP’s programs remain stable, responsive, and accountable to the children and families we serve.

MAP approaches funding with integrity, transparency, and mission alignment—prioritizing resources that support long-term impact rather than short-term gain.

    Role Overview

The Funding Coordinator supports MAP’s Development function by coordinating funding-related activities across grants, donations, and external funding opportunities. This role helps ensure funding efforts are organized, timely, and aligned with MAP’s mission, values, and compliance obligations.

The Coordinator works closely with Development leadership, program teams, and finance/operations to track opportunities, support applications, and maintain accurate funding records.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Track and organize funding opportunities, deadlines, and requirements
    • Support grant application preparation by coordinating materials and inputs
    • Maintain accurate records of submissions, awards, and reporting timelines
    • Assist with funder communications and documentation as needed
    • Coordinate with program and finance teams to gather impact and budget information
    • Support compliance with grant and donor reporting requirements
    • Help maintain funding calendars, trackers, and internal documentation
    • Flag upcoming deadlines, risks, or gaps for Development leadership

    Qualifications

    • Strong organizational and project coordination skills
    • Attention to detail and comfort managing timelines and documentation
    • Clear written communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively across teams
    • Reliability and follow-through
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience in nonprofit development, grants, fundraising, or administration
    • Familiarity with grant portals or donor management systems
    • Comfort working with spreadsheets and trackers
    • Experience supporting proposals or reports
    • Interest in nonprofit sustainability and impact measurement

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience in nonprofit funding and development operations
    • Exposure to grants, donor relations, and compliance processes
    • Collaboration with development, program, and finance teams
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • The opportunity to help sustain programs that directly support children and families
