    Type: Volunteer

    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. We believe every child deserves a promise kept — and we work every day to make that promise real.

MAP’s fashion initiative, Thread & Promise, uses apparel and design to raise awareness and generate support for our programs. Every piece carries a story of mentorship, resilience, and hope.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Volunteer E-Commerce Specialist to support the setup, management, and optimization of Thread & Promise’s online store. This role will focus on product uploads, listings, customer experience, and backend operations to ensure the store is functional, user-friendly, and aligned with MAP’s mission. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and excited about applying their skills to socially impactful fashion.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Upload and maintain product listings with accurate descriptions, images, and pricing
    • Ensure smooth functionality of the online storefront (Shopify, Squarespace, WooCommerce, or similar)
    • Monitor inventory, orders, and customer inquiries
    • Collaborate with design and communications teams to align listings with brand voice
    • Optimize product pages for SEO and user experience
    • Track sales and traffic data, providing reports and recommendations
    • Support promotions, campaigns, and product launches

    Requirements

    • Experience in e-commerce operations or online store management
    • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Squarespace, or WooCommerce
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Basic knowledge of SEO and digital marketing practices
    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical or operational issues
    • Commitment to MAP’s mission and values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience working with nonprofit or social enterprise e-commerce projects
    • Familiarity with Google Analytics, SEO tools, or digital merchandising
    • Knowledge of graphic design tools (Canva, Photoshop, or similar) for product imagery
    • Customer service or CRM experience

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience managing e-commerce operations for a mission-driven brand
    • Opportunities to strengthen technical, operational, and digital marketing skills
    • Collaboration with a creative and passionate team
    • A portfolio project that demonstrates impact through digital retail
    • Letters of recommendation and professional references for future opportunities
