    Description

    Company Description

Beyond 22 Project is dedicated to enhancing the lifelong wellbeing of adults with disabilities and their families, with a focus on Washington State. After individuals age out of school-based programs at 22, they often lose access to necessary structure, community, and resources, placing financial strain on caregivers. The organization advocates for stronger family support, lifelong community-based programs, and utilizes lived experiences to shape policy and inspire action.

    Position Overview

The Director of Communications will lead outreach, branding, and public engagement efforts for the Beyond 22 Project. This position is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling, community connection, and using communications as a tool for advocacy and impact. As we are in the early stages of building the organization, this is a volunteer position with the opportunity to shape our communications strategy from the ground up.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to raise awareness of the Beyond 22 Project.
    • Oversee social media platforms, website content, newsletters, and press releases.
    • Craft clear and compelling messaging to amplify our mission and legislative priorities.
    • Build relationships with community organizations, media outlets, and key stakeholders.
    • Represent the Beyond 22 Project through public-facing communication and outreach campaigns.
    • Supervise and mentor interns to assist with content creation, social media management, and outreach projects.
    • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and other leadership to align communications with organizational strategy.

    Qualifications

    • Strong interest or experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related fields.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms, digital content creation, or graphic design tools is a plus.
    • Ability to develop inclusive and accessible communications.
    • Organized, creative, and comfortable working in a collaborative, start-up nonprofit environment.
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and amplifying the voices of individuals with disabilities and their families.

    Time Commitment

    • Attendance at monthly Board meetings.
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per month on communications-related work, with flexibility based on project needs.
