Description:
Arbor Vista residents have expressed strong interest in creative programming, and we are seeking a volunteer Arts and Crafts Class Leader to facilitate engaging workshops on site. The volunteer will design and lead art activities that support residents in expressing themselves, staying mentally and physically active, and building community. Classes will take place beginning April 1, 2026, typically on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays at 2:00 PM, either bi‑weekly or monthly depending on your availability.
Knowledge of Chinese is helpful but not required.
Reports to:
Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator
Goal of Position:
To give seniors a creative outlet to express themselves, encourage physical and mental exercise, and foster meaningful community connections.
Specific Tasks:
- Prepare activities for each day’s activities. If necessary, contact Volunteer Coordinator or Service Coordinator about getting necessary supplies for specific activity.
- Set up the community room so that it is conducive for an art class.
- Monitor attendance by making sure that all participating residents sign the sign-in sheet.
- Give the residents instructions or guidelines for the activity.
- Work with residents one-on-one if needed, maintaining the balance between giving them independence and support.
- Be open to residents’ suggestions and encourage their feedback.
- Clean up after your group and encourage the residents to help you. Put the furniture back the way you found it. Leave the room as clean as you found it.
- If you need any supplies, discuss your requests with the Service Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Physical/Age Requirements:
- Able to carry art or craft supplies.
- Able to move around the room to assist residents.
Skills/Education/Experience:
- Experience in an art or craft form.
- Interest in working with seniors.
- Friendly, patient, and open‑minded.
- Education in art is preferred but not required.
- Teaching experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Chinese is helpful but not required.
