Position Title
Hospice Volunteer (Companion Role)
Position Summary
Hospice volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families. As a companion volunteer, you will offer emotional support, companionship, and a calming presence during a deeply meaningful stage of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly visits and companionship to patients in their homes or care facilities
- Engage in conversation, read aloud, play music, or simply sit quietly with patients
- Offer respite support to family caregivers
- Assist with light, non-medical tasks (e.g., running small errands, writing letters)
- Support the hospice team by documenting visits and communicating observations
Qualifications
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic demeanor
- Strong listening skills and emotional sensitivity
- Reliability and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Willingness to complete required training and background checks
Training & Support
All volunteers receive comprehensive training on hospice philosophy, communication skills, and end-of-life care. Ongoing support and supervision are provided by experienced hospice staff.
Time Commitment
Flexible scheduling based on your availability; typically 4 hours per month.
