Volunteers are needed to sit "vigil" by offering companionship, comfort, and emotional support to patients during their final hours of life, sometimes referred to as the "11th hour". Support can be provided to patients who have no family to be with them or to provide support and respite time to families and caregivers. This may occur by just being a calm presence, talking and listening to family/caregivers, quietly playing recorded music, or just sharing the silence by holding a hand. Training will be provided to understand the dying process and help to support the patient and the family if present.
