    Description

Support Local History as an Historic Trade or Craft Demonstrator!

Do you enjoy sharing your historic trade or craft skills such as blacksmithing, spinning, hearth cooking, carpentry, tailoring, etc. with others? The historic Hugh Torance House and Store invites you to join our dedicated team of volunteers as an historic demonstrator at special Living History Day events throughout the year! As a demonstrator, you’ll help bring our site’s history to life by welcoming visitors to our incredibly preserved circa 1779 historic site and sharing your expertise of your trade or craft skills.

The Hugh Torance House and Store, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located at 8231 Gilead Road in Huntersville, NC, is open most Sundays from 1pm-4pm. Historic demonstrators are welcome anytime, but they are especially needed during our Living History Day events held throughout the year.

Why volunteer as a historic demonstrator?

    • Discover fascinating stories about our town’s past.
    • Share your love of your historic trade or craft skills with the community.
    • Meet a welcoming group of fellow volunteers who share your interests.
    • Enjoy the satisfaction of inspiring curiosity and preserving local heritage.

    What’s involved?

Historic demonstrators commit to one 3-hour shift during our quarterly Living History Day event with the following expectations:

    • Dress in colonial costume attire to help maintain the “living history” aesthetic of the site.
    • Bring the historical items, materials, supplies, and display items you need to set up and perform your trade, craft or skill.
    • Greet and engage visitors by sharing knowledge of your historic trade or craft skills while practicing it.

Volunteering at the historic Hugh Torance House and Store allows our nonprofit to offer high-quality, engaging experiences that foster community stewardship of local history. Join us to showcase and share the rich history of the Hugh Torance House and Store to ensure its preservation!
