    Description

National Volunteer Week - 19th century ceramics inventory, quilt collection cataloging & indexing

Part of the of National Volunteer Week activities, this AMHA opportunity provides variable options for volunteers during April.

    1) The first includes preparatory work with late 19th and early 20th ceramics. A large collection of remnants recovered from a civil works project need cleaning and properly described before they can be inventoried. Several dozen objects from the same collection require the same treatment.

Attention to detail is highly encouraged as in most cases there are only minute traces of makers information remaining. And precautions will need to be observed as the remnants have sharp edges.

    2) An ongoing indexing project: this year we are working on a history book of locally handmade quilts. This project requires detailed descriptions of the works contents (artists, materials listing, dates, locations, etc.). Attention to detail and cross referencing skills will be very useful.

AMHA provides all the proper cleaning, documenting, and storage materials to conduct these tasks successfully.
