    Description

Volunteer Driver — Volunteers in Motion

    About the Program

Volunteers in Motion is a volunteer driver program that helps older adults (65+) and people with disabilities in Clark County, Washington, access essential transportation. Volunteer drivers provide rides to medical appointments, social events, grocery shopping, and other outings for community members who otherwise have no transportation options. This service supports independence and connection for people who might be isolated without reliable transportation.

    Responsibilities

As a Volunteer Driver with Volunteers in Motion, you will:

    • Provide safe, dependable transportation to passengers for their appointments, social events, shopping, and other essential trips.
    • Use your own registered vehicle or one of the agency’s vans to complete assigned trips.
    • Communicate professionally and courteously with riders, demonstrating excellent customer service.
    • Follow all safety guidelines and comply with state laws and client confidentiality requirements while volunteering.
    • Attend orientation and required training (including wheelchair securement, when applicable, and passenger assistance).

Volunteers choose which trips they are available for and help others stay active, connected, and independent in their communities.

    Qualifications

To become a Volunteer Driver, applicants should:

    • Be at least 21 years old.
    • Have a valid driver’s license and a registered vehicle in good condition (if using their own vehicle).
    • Maintain state-required auto insurance levels or higher.
    • Complete and submit a volunteer application form.
    • Sign a Release of Information (ROI) allowing Community in Motion to obtain a 5-year driving abstract
    • Successfully pass a fingerprint background check (including DMV report and other screenings).
    • Review and sign a self-declaration of ability to carry out essential duties.
    • Be willing to participate in an annual vehicle inspection and ride-along evaluation.
    • Volunteers should have a desire to help others, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to providing respectful, inclusive service to riders of all backgrounds.

    Location

Rides are provided to residents of Clark County, Washington, with trips occurring throughout and to the Portland/Vancouver metro area. Volunteer coordination and scheduling are managed through Community in Motion’s Vancouver office.
