Description
The Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area (LVMont) is a private, nonprofit organization that provides free, private, individualized, and confidential tutoring in basic reading, writing, and English to adult Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL.).
LVMont is seeking dedicated and experienced professionals to join the Board of Directors. As a Board member, you will play an important role in providing governance, strategic oversight, and fundraising support to ensure that the organization achieves its mission.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing strategic direction and oversight to ensure the success of LVMont's programs and initiatives.
- Providing financial oversight and ensuring compliance with nonprofit governance standards and legal requirements.
- Attending at least two-thirds of the Board meetings (which occur every other month) and participating in one of the committees - Governance, Finance or Fundraising.
- Representing the organization at special events, fundraising and networking events.
- Within financial means, making a financial contribution to the organization.
This is a volunteer position with a term length of 3 years, with an option to renew for another term.
Qualifications:
- Committed, enthusiastic, and willing to participate in the development and growth of the organization.
- Ability to work as part of the team and with a diverse group of tutors and students.
- A strong interest in adult literacy, and sensitivity to students and volunteers.
- Ability to provide expertise in at least one area needed by the organization, e.g. fund-raising, financial management, electronic media management.
