Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project (ANV) is an Oakland-based nonprofit rooted in food justice, youth leadership, and community power. For over 15 years, ANV has cultivated spaces where youth and families plant, grow, and thrive. Together, we are building Future Paradise—a world where joy, justice, and opportunity grow as abundantly as our gardens.
The Act Non Verba Board is seeking individuals who are dedicated, committed, willing to learn, and have a positive, can-do attitude. The Board serves to provide governance, financial oversight, strategic guidance, and fundraising capacity to advance Acta Non Verba’s mission.
Board Members roles and responsibilities:
- Governance & Fiduciary Duty
- Uphold ANV’s mission, vision, and values.
- Ensure financial integrity, sustainability, and compliance.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director.
- Fundraising & Resource Development
- Recognize that ANV’s annual budget is everyone’s responsibility.
- Give personally at a meaningful level and secure additional resources through networks, creativity, and advocacy.
- Contribute to the Board’s collective goal by supporting in organizational fundraising
- Engagement & Representation
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings, committee work, retreats, and events.
- Represent ANV with integrity and enthusiasm in the community.
- Be an ambassador: sharing ANV’s story, inviting others to join
Qualifications
We seek Board Members who are:
- Deeply committed to equity, justice, and community power.
- Able to bring professional expertise, lived experience, and networks that strengthen ANV.
- Willing to embrace both the JOY and the HARD WORK of Board service.
- Visionary thinkers and doers who believe in the possibility of a Future Paradise for Oakland’s youth.
Time Commitment
- Monthly Board/ Training/ Working Meetings (2 hours each)
- Committee Work (approx. 4–6 hours per month)
- Annual Retreat (multi-day)
- Events & Fundraising (always needed, including at least two 4-hour major events annually)
