    Description

    St. Francis Vet Care – Gainesville, FL

    St. Francis Vet Care is a nonprofit veterinary clinic committed to providing accessible, compassionate care for pets in our community. We are seeking licensed and experienced veterinary professionals to volunteer alongside our staff team to support affordable veterinary services for families in need.

    Volunteer veterinary professionals play a vital role in expanding access to care, strengthening the human-animal bond, and helping keep pets healthy and out of shelters.

    Volunteer Roles Needed

    Veterinarian Volunteer Requirements (DVM/VMD)

    To serve as a volunteer veterinarian, applicants must meet the following:

    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited veterinary program
    • Active Florida veterinary license in good standing
    • Experience with spay/neuter and minor surgical procedures (preferred/strongly encouraged)
    • Commitment to accessible, community-based veterinary care and a compassionate client experience.

    We also welcome skilled volunteers including:

    • Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT/CVT/RVT)
    • Veterinary Assistants / Kennel Technicians
    • Experienced veterinary support professionals (triage, patient care, restraint, etc.)

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    Depending on role and licensure, volunteers may assist with:

    • Outpatient appointments and community-focused wellness care
    • Exams and medical decision-making (DVMs)
    • Vaccines, microchipping, blood draws, and sample collection
    • Patient restraint, triage support, and treatment assistance
    • Client education and discharge instructions
    • Medical record support and communication with staff
    • Supporting outreach events (mobile/community clinics) when scheduled
    • Maintaining a calm, compassionate clinic environment for patients and clients

    Qualifications

    • Appropriate veterinary credentials (as applicable to role)
    • Strong patient-handling skills and comfort working in a fast-paced environment
    • Compassionate, mission-aligned approach to client and patient care
    • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers
    • Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and respectful communication
