    Description

    Volunteer Grant Writer Needed

    Mission

Our mission is to help women and children heal from violent environments and achieve self-sufficiency through holistic support, including career development, housing, and financial assistance.

    Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Volunteer Grant Writer to support Courageous Women Association in identifying, researching, and securing grant funding to sustain and expand our programs and services.

This role is ideal for someone with strong research and writing skills who is passionate about nonprofit work and has experience—or demonstrated ability—in successfully obtaining grant funding.

At this time, our organization is intentionally seeking support in this area, as we do not currently have a team member with specialized grant writing expertise. We are looking for a committed individual to join and help build our grant writing efforts, playing a critical role in advancing our mission and long-term sustainability.

The Volunteer Grant Writer will support funding efforts for key initiatives, including:

      • The Courage House Transitional Home
      • Career Development and Economic Empowerment Program
      • Sister2Sister Support Groups
      • Community Food Pantry
      • Annual Clothing and Food Drive
      • Other programs and events aligned with the mission of Courageous Women Association

    Growth Opportunity

      • Opportunity to help build and shape the organization’s grant writing strategy from the ground up
      • Potential to contribute toward securing funding that may support a future paid grant writing role
      • While this is a volunteer position, Courageous Women Association is committed to exploring opportunities to transition key roles into funded positions as grants are secured

    Key Responsibilities

    Grant Research & Identification

      • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources aligned with the organization’s mission and programs
      • Evaluate eligibility requirements, deadlines, and funding priorities
      • Maintain and update a database of prospective funding opportunities

    Grant Writing & Submission

      • Prepare, write, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications
      • Tailor proposals to align with specific funder guidelines and priorities
      • Clearly articulate program goals, impact, and funding needs

    Collaboration & Information Gathering

      • Work closely with leadership and program teams to gather necessary data, narratives, and supporting materials
      • Translate program outcomes and organizational impact into strong, persuasive proposals
      • Collaborate with the Grant Team to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging

    Grant Management & Tracking

      • Track grant deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
      • Assist in preparing grant reports and follow-up documentation as needed
      • Maintain organized records of submissions, outcomes, and funder communications

    Strategic Support

      • Provide insight and recommendations on funding strategies and opportunities
      • Help strengthen the organization’s overall grant readiness and positioning
      • Support the development of standard language and templates for future proposals

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in grant writing, nonprofit fundraising, or a related field (volunteer or professional)
    • Proven ability or demonstrated success in securing grant funding (strongly preferred)
    • Strong research, writing, and editing skills
    • Ability to translate program impact into compelling narratives
    • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Familiarity with grant databases and research tools is a plus
    • Passion for serving women, children, and underserved communities

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience in nonprofit grant writing and funding strategy
    • Opportunity to directly impact programs that support women and families in need
    • Professional portfolio-building and grant writing experience
    • Collaboration with a passionate, mission-driven team
    • Professional reference upon successful completion of service
