    Description

    Annual Black History Month Fashion Show and Black Love Day Celebration

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    • Assist with event setup, including exhibits, dressing rooms, stage layout, and food service areas (morning shift).
    • Support middle and high school fashion designers and youth vendors throughout the event.
    • Help check in guests and guide attendees to the correct areas.
    • Ensure models have water, garment racks, hangers, and needed supplies.
    • Assist with serving dinner during the Black Love Day feast.
    • Help with event takedown, cleanup, and restoring the venue to its original setup (afternoon/evening shift).
    • Provide general support to the PDDBM staff as needed to keep the event running smoothly.

    Qualifications

    • No experience required — training provided on-site.
    • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, community-centered environment.
    • Able to stand, walk, or help with light lifting if needed (tasks will vary).
    • Enjoy working with youth and supporting a culturally-focused community event.
    • Positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.

    Other Details

    • Meals provided: full breakfast and dinner for all volunteers.
    • Volunteers may choose between the morning shift (8 AM–12 PM), afternoon shift (2 PM–6 PM), or the full-day shift (8 AM–6 PM).
    • This event celebrates Black Love Day and Black History Month, featuring youth-led fashion designs and student vendors.
    • Volunteers directly support middle and high school students showcasing their creativity for the first time.
    • This is an in-person opportunity at The Arts Centered (former FVRL), 1007 E Mill Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA.

    2. Turn left onto E Mill Plain Blvd.
    3. Continue straight for about 5 miles

    6. Turn right into the large parking lot on the right side of the building.

    From I-205 South

    1. Take Exit 28 for Mill Plain Blvd.
    2. Turn right onto E Mill Plain Blvd.
    3. Continue about 5 miles
    4. straight.
    5. The building will be on your left, across from Clark Public Utilities.
    6. Park in the large lot on the right side of the building near the bus stop.

    From I-5 North

    1. Take Exit 1C toward Mill Plain Blvd.
    2. Turn right onto E Mill Plain Blvd.
    3. Continue for about 1 mile.
    4. The Arts Centered (former FVRL) will be on your right.
    5. Turn into the large parking lot on the right side of the building.

    From I-5 South

    1. Take Exit 1D toward Mill Plain Blvd.
    2. Turn left onto W Mill Plain Blvd.
    3. Continue straight for about 2 miles

    5. The building will be on your right.
    6. Park in the large lot on the right side of the building near the bus stop.
