ALF Patient Companion Volunteer – Bring Connection, Comfort & Joy (Bilingual)
Details
Description
Your time can make someone's day feel a little less lonely.
Sometimes, what a person needs most isn't a medical intervention. It's someone who will sit beside them, listen to their stories, share a laugh, or simply spend a little time together.
At Medcare Hospice, our Patient Companion Volunteers visit hospice patients living in Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) and provide something incredibly meaningful: human connection.
Through conversation, games, music, reading, or simply being present, you can help patients feel seen, valued, and connected.
No medical experience is required. Just bring your time, compassion, and willingness to connect.
What You'll Do
As an ALF Patient Companion Volunteer, you may:
- Spend time talking and connecting with patients
- Listen to stories, memories, and life experiences
- Read books, newspapers, or magazines together
- Play cards, board games, or other simple activities
- Listen to music or share favorite songs
- Help patients feel less isolated or alone
- Celebrate birthdays, holidays, or meaningful occasions
- Provide a friendly and familiar presence during regular visits
Every patient is different, so you'll have the opportunity to discover what makes each person smile and feel comfortable.
