This is a one-day commitment of about 4–5 hours, including setup, the march and lunch. We’ll email your call time once you’re confirmed. Wear comfortable shoes and your college gear, or the swag we provide, and be ready to stand, walk and cheer.

Cheer On NYC Seniors at Their College March in the Bronx - Futures Ignite

Futures Ignite partners with schools to propel bold college and career futures for every student

On Friday, December 4th, the entire senior class at Jonas Bronck Academy in the Bronx will march through their neighborhood, with banners up and college gear on, to publicly declare where they’re headed next. Families line the sidewalks, teachers cheer, and younger students watch and start to imagine their own march. We’re looking for volunteers to be the heart of the celebration.

Futures Ignite is a NYC college-access nonprofit serving students in grades 9–12 in the Bronx and Washington Heights. Since 2012 we’ve supported more than 1,000 students. 90% of them are the first in their families to go to college, and 88% go on to enroll in college.

What you’ll do

Set the stage: arrive early to help set up the school, the route and the celebration space.
Write to a senior: write a personal letter of encouragement for a senior to open and keep.
Suit up: wear your alma mater’s colors or the college swag we provide.
Be the cheering squad: line the route, make noise, hold signs and march alongside the seniors.
Run the celebration: help serve the luncheon and keep the room moving as students, families and staff celebrate together.

When: Friday, December 4th, starting at 8:00 AM

Where: Jonas Bronck Academy, 400 E Fordham Rd, Bronx, NY 10458

Commitment: about 4–5 hours, including setup and the luncheon. We’ll share the exact call time once you’re confirmed.

No experience needed, just energy and a loud voice.
