Visit‑A‑Bit (VAB) Visiting Volunteer
Reports To: Visit‑A‑Bit Volunteer Coordinator
Time Commitment: 1–2 hours per week
Length of Commitment: 12 months
Environment: Volunteering is conducted at the participant’s home and/or the community.
Summary of Position: The VAB Visiting Volunteer provides companionship and emotional support to an assigned older adult participant through weekly scheduled in-person visits. Volunteers engage participants through conversation, active listening, and encouragement to help reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation.

Qualifications:
Training & Supervision: All Volunteers complete required training prior to placement. Training includes a virtual orientation via Zoom, program expectations, communication skills, volunteer boundaries, HIPAA & HITECH confidentiality training, OSHA health and safety education, and documentation procedures.
Volunteers are supervised by the Visit‑A‑Bit Volunteer Coordinator, who provides ongoing support, guidance, and periodic check‑ins throughout the volunteer experience.

Application & Screening Requirements: All prospective volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application and required screening prior to placement. This includes completion of a Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) background check. The cost of the FCSR registration is covered by VNA/SSM Health.
