Details
Description
*****We're seeking a bi-lingual Mandarin - English individual to support this opportunity
Are you a tech-savvy person who wants to make a difference in the lives of seniors? We'd love to meet you!
We're looking for volunteers interested in helping a small group of senior residents develop basic digital literacy skills through a short series of classes. These volunteers, known as Digital Navigators, help guide the learning and discovery process toward digital literacy.
Your support enables seniors to gain access and confidence in digital literacy skills, allowing them to be more connected to family and community through learning how to use virtual meeting spaces and manage email inboxes.
As a Digital Navigator you will:
- Lead a small group through pre-written training material in an onsite, in-person class format.
- Assess resident's current digital skill level and support needs
- Provide additional insight to support different learning styles.
- Coach residents as they gain skills and report successes and ongoing needs to the Technology Programs Manager
Skills we hope you have:
- Competency and understanding of basic technology: PC, Mac, smartphones, and tablets
- Great communication skills and ability to relate concepts in multiple ways
- Patience for learners and ability to explain things simply
- An ability to establish trust with folks of varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Previous technology tutoring (especially with seniors) a plus but not required
